Here are some things that have stood out for me, that go a long way when preparing for a boudoir photoshoot as a Boudoir Photographer for the past 8 years I have seen some amazing outfits, and some very well prepared clients ! Hope this Blog also helps you prepare for your session.
Tip #1 - Choose Outfits that make you feel GOOD
I ALWAYS tell my clients that outfits make 90% of the shoot!!! Your Outfit/ Lingerie Should match the vibe and energy of what you want your final images to look like, For example if you want more of an erotic feel to your images you should purchase Lingerie with chains on it instead of a soft lace baby doll.
Tip #2 - Outfits ARE EVERYTHING
Ok, I am going to go more into detail about the outfit thing because.... they really matter!
Is your vibe more edgy and mysterious?? Think Black outfits, Leather gloves, Knee high boots that tie the look together, Accessories!! Like whips etc. Details matter.
Are you going for more of soft and pretty vibe? Think Pastels and Robes and pretty accessories like garters. Make sure you are trying on all of your lingerie before your session, Does it fill well? Does it sit where it should sit? Do you feel comfortable in the outfit? If not try something else! The last thing we want is for a client to feel uncomfortable in their outfit choices. It will translate in the photos.
If you find yourself struggling to find and outfit that fits your body make sure to ask your photographer for help! Stretchy Bodysuits are my personal favorite for all body types.

Tip #3 - Communicate with your photographer
About your vision and any specific poses or style you want to try before your shoot!
That way your photographer can prepare and also help suggest ideas. You can also make a photo album with photos from your photographers portfolio or Instagram feed!
That way the day of your session you can show your photographer.
We love it when our clients show us inspiration from photo sessions we have done in the past.
Tip #4 - Hydrate your skin
This one is so important! Make sure that at least 2 weeks leading up to your session that you are moisturizing your face and body. Especially in the winter months when our skin gets dry from the weather changes here in the Midwest. Getting a good night sleep before your photoshoot is also very important!
Tip #5 - Stretch
My final tip is stretching before your session... I have photograph yoga instructors who have said they were sore the next day after their sessions. So it doesn't matter if you are a stretchy flexible person ! You must stretch days leading up to your session or you will feel it on your back muscles ! Because of the arching and holding poses through out your session.
You can find some easy stretches on Pinterest if you don't know how to stretch your back. I try to remind all my clients to do a quick stretch right before I start posing them.
I hope these tips help you !
Doing a Boudoir session can be nerve wrecking but trusting your photographer and preparing for your session with these tips will help everything go smooth the day of your shoot. Select outfits that make you feel good! Hydrate your skin, and stretch.
